The fauna in the Loreto region is varied and there are species such as Lagarto, otorongo, boa, anaconda, sajino, sachavaca, deer, ronsoco, monkey, sloth, turtle, parrot, pink dolphin, etc. Among the threatened species in danger of extinction are the jaguar, the black lizard, the manatee, various river turtles, the river otter, the red macaw, the pink dolphin and the paiche. These species inhabit the Pacaya-Samiria national reserve.
