BIRDWATCHING TOUR

Day 01:
Welcome at Puerto Maldonado’s airport, meet our naturalist bilingual
guide, transfer to the Port where a covered boat take us for about 1
hour downstream the Bajo Madre de Dios River toward Nái-Mecí Lodge. From
the boat it is possible to observe cocoi herons, snowy egrets, great
egrets, black, turkey and yellow headed vultures, giant cowbirds,
ospreys and others. During the ride our guide is going to offer an
introduction to the rainforest itself. Immediately after arrival, a free
time to relax in our fabulous bungalows and have lunch. A first walk
though our interesting trail system where we can spot festive coquettes,
blue crowned motmots, plumbeous kites, black billed trashes. Dinner,
talk about this first experience in the Amazon jungle and a briefing for
next day’s plans. As optional a short night walk to observe insects and
amphibians. Overnight at Nái-Mecí Lodge.

Day 02:
Breakfast will be offered since very early morning. Again from our
motor boat we can observe many different species of birds on the way to
the rangers control and the entry to Sandoval Lake located in Tambopata
Reserve. We start a 3 kilometers hike through an interesting trail until
the Lake itself and look for blue-crowned trogons, Agami Herons,
Ivory-billed Aracaris, Reddish hermits, squirrel cockoos, and then board
small canoes and paddle trying to observe monkeys, turtles, bats and if
lucky the family of Giant Otters. At this fabulous lake it is possible
to spot tiger herons, cocoi herons, cormorants, anhingas, red capped
cardinals, amazon kingfishers, ringed kingfishers, Leddered aracaris,
sungrebes and many others. Box Lunch. We walk back to our motorized boat
and to Nái-Mecí Lodge.
After relaxing we can walk around the trails to have the chance to see
chestnut-fronted macaws, blue and yellow macaws, white necked thrushes,
parrot nests and an incredible jungle sunset. Dinner and overnight at
Nái-Mecí Lodge.
DAY 03:
After an early breakfast, we’ll set off on a one-day boat trip (with
lunch on board) to the macaw clay lick or Collpa. On our way along the
Bajo Madre de Dios River and the border between Peru and Bolivia we
enter the Heath River and this incredible ecosystem of amazon jungle and
pampas, we will observe animals such as white caimans, turtles, many
families of capibaras and a variety of birds such as red caped
cardinals, sand colored night-hawks, Ledder tailed nightjars, ocellanted
poorwills, ringed kingfishers and many more. We arrive to a nice beach
where we setup camp and enjoy dinner.

DAY 04:
Once again, very early, we’ll visit a hidden shelter to observe the
clay lick wall and wait for the arrival of parrots, parakeets and
macaws. It is possible to easily observe Yellow crowned parrots, blue
headed parrots, orange checked parrots, peach-fronted parakeets, mealy
parrots, tui parakeets, cobald-winged parakeets, red and green macaws.
We will have the opportunity to see an amazing sunrise. We’ll return to
our campsite for breakfast, then pack up and board our motorized river
boat upstream to Nái-Mecí Lodge. We enjoy lunch on a relaxing ride.
Day 05:
Alter breakfast we leave Nái-Mecí Lodge. Our boat will take us to
Puerto Maldonado Port and then continue by bus to the airport.
We invite our guests to enjoy the swimming pool, the tropical bar,
pool, darts and other games.
